Istanbul has trams, metro, buses and ferries. Buy an Istanbulkart for discounted fares across public transport.
Best Time to Visit
Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) offer mild weather and fewer crowds. Summers can be hot and busy.
Money & Safety
Local currency is the Turkish Lira (TRY). Cards are widely accepted, but carry some cash for small vendors. Be aware of pickpockets in busy markets.
Visiting Religious Sites
If you visit mosques, dress modestly: shoulders covered and women may be asked to cover their heads. Remove shoes where requested and remain quiet.
